Independent Examination

Compliance, handled with care.

Every charity trustee must prepare accounts, and registered charity trustees must also produce a Trustees' Annual Report — together, these explain your charity's purpose, activities, income and expenditure to the outside world. If your charity's turnover is up to £1 million (rising to £1.5 million for accounting periods ending on or after 30 September 2026), an independent examination is your legal route to meeting that requirement — and I make sure it's done properly, thoroughly, and without unnecessary stress.

A friendly, supportive examination — not an ordeal.

Independent examination has a reputation for being daunting. I do things differently: clear communication, no jargon, and a process that feels supportive rather than like an inspection. You'll know exactly what's needed from you, and why, every step of the way.

More than a tick-box exercise.

A properly conducted examination does more than satisfy a legal requirement — it gives your trustees, funders and donors real confidence that your charity's accounts are accurate and trustworthy. That's confidence that can strengthen funding relationships, not just paperwork you file away.

Accounts preparation and Trustees' Annual Report support.

I can also prepare your accounts and advise on your Trustees' Annual Report, so the whole process — from the numbers to the narrative — is handled with one consistent, expert eye.

A note on independence: To protect the independence the examination requires, I can prepare and independently examine the same charity's accounts, or provide bookkeeping and accounts preparation — but I can't provide all three services for the same charity.

Need a straightforward, supportive independent examination for your charity?
